Bloomingdale Golfers Club – Semi-Private

When you are voted Tampa’s #1 golf course for 10 years in a row, that’s saying something. Now when you find a mention in Golf Digest’s “Best Courses To Play” that’s etching it down.

Many pros have called BGC their home.

With 220 acres of Florida’s natural terrain encapsulated within its boundaries and boasting of 100-year-old oaks, with a plethora of wildlife calling it home, the Bloomingdale golf course is a naturalist golfer’s delight.

You’ll get to spot a variety of birds and animals including cranes, raccoons, bald eagles, and semi-rare birds that can add some animal magnetism to your game.

The club is a Ron Garl Signature course with a classic 18-hole Par 72 layout with a slope of 136 and a USGA rating of 75.0.

Like Buckhorn, this course is also known as a challenging yet fun course to play.

The course has a good layout with some of the best Par 5’s, as per Golfweek.

Measuring 7165 yards from the back tees with a course rating of  75 and 5 sets of tees, this is a challenging course, testing the skills of advanced and beginner golfers alike.

The greens are excellent, no surprises here, as they use the CHAMPION Dwarf Bermudagrass which puts BGC in an exclusive list of courses that uses this type of grass.

The practice facilities, again, which some pros call home, has a 2-tiered driving range, a chipping area for the short game, a half-acre putting green which, it seems, is the largest in the Tampa Bay area. The facility also has a golf shop.

The golf academy at Bloomingdale provides clinics and private golf lessons for players at all skill levels.

The green fees are $42 for 9 holes for morning tee times which reduces to $25 after 3 PM for weekdays with cart. The rates are $52 and $25 for weekends, respectively. A variety of golf memberships are also available that suits the need of any individual.

A pizzeria and grille provide post-game nourishment.

Diamond Hill Golf & Country Club – Semi-Private

This club in Dover was opened in 1959 and is the oldest golf course in the Dover/Brandon area. Designed by Chic Adams, this is an 18-hole Par 72 with a USGA rating of 73.8 and a slope of 135.

This course was built on an old phosphate mine and that reflects in the terrain with a lot of undulations, mounds, and elevation changes that are very uncommon in this part of the country.

Water and numerous bunkers come into play in many holes. Fairways are accommodating, however, some houses line some of the fairways, and so strategic tee shots are required to not get into trouble.

The course has a nice layout and measures 7000 yards from the tips; not a short one by any measure, and also boasts of a 630 yards par 5 that is one of the longest in Florida.

With 5 sets of tees, this course is challenging yet fun for all levels.

The practice facilities include short game and long game areas such as driving range, pitching and chipping areas, as well as putting greens.

The green fees are $40 for early morning tee times with cart, $37 between 11 am to 3 pm, and $27 after 3 PM on weekdays. On weekends, the rates are $45, $42, and $32, respectively. Golf membership options are also available if you wish to become a member.
