Lutz, FL lies to the north of Tampa and east of Tarpon Springs.

The Club At Cheval – (Cheval Country Club) Semi-Private
The golf course at Cheval borders TPC Tampa Bay and so has pretty much the same geographic characteristics of being surrounded by nature preserves with densely wooded areas, marshes, and swamps.
Considered to be a premier club in the region, this course was built in 1986 and designed by Steve Smyers, who also designed some golf courses in the neighboring Tarpon Springs such as Wentworth Golf Club and Crescent Oaks Country Club.
This is an 18-hole Par 71 course with a slope of 140 and a USGA rating of 74.5
This club has more than 800 acres of development amidst a pristine natural setting.
A plethora of Florida wildlife can add some excitement to the game.
Golf at Cheval is known to have unique and scenic holes with a lot of doglegs. And just like TPC Tampa Bay, water features and bunkers are prominent in this course and so good strategy with the tee shots is vital to make par.
Measuring 6960 yards from the tips, this can be a challenging course even for the seasoned golfer.
There is no driving range for swing practice. However, short game practice is possible with pitching and chipping areas, and bunkers. A putting green is also available.
Golf lessons and instructions are available from PGA professionals. A golf academy provides comprehensive training for junior golfers.
The green fee rates are standard for all tee times throughout the day at $53 for 18 holes with cart, and a 9-hole option for $27 with cart.
Multiple membership options are available ranging from ‘Full to Social.’
The club has a restaurant for your post-game nourishment.
Public Courses In Lutz, FL
TPC Tampa Bay
Part of the PGA Tour Golf Course properties, TPC Tampa Bay is a Bobby Weed-designed golf course built in 1991.
This is an 18 hole Par 71 championship course with a slope of 139 and a rating of 73.9.
This course has hosted the PGA Tour Champions event for 21 consecutive years.
This is a challenging course and not known to be a beginner-friendly one.
With plenty of water and bunkers that come into play, angled fairways and undulating greens, and measuring 6900 yards from the back tees, this course can provide plenty of challenges if you are looking for one.
The area is dotted with nature preserves, wetlands, and marshes that carry these elements into the courses surrounding it and TPC Tampa Bay is no exception.
With plenty of wildlife, thickly wooded trees, lakes, and water bodies, these courses are a naturalist golfer’s delight.
TPC Tampa Bay is also a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
The practice facilities include a driving range with a pitching and chipping area for the short game, putting greens, as well as a golf shop.
PGA professionals provide golf lessons for both adults and juniors.
The morning tee times start at 8 AM with the twilight tee-offs up until 6:30 PM.
Being a premier club, the green fees are generally above $100 per person for 18 holes with cart.
Three types of membership are available – Golf, Corporate, and Junior.
Golf packages are available that have hotel tie-ups with a variety of premier hotel chains in and around Tampa Bay.
The course also has a restaurant as well as a clubhouse that can host events.
Heritage Harbor Golf And Country Club
This public course lies to the north of TPC and Cheval and actually borders the Cheval course.
So, as you can imagine, all the courses at Lutz pretty much share the same geographic attributes. Plenty of densely wooded cypresses, marshes, and water bodies, and local Florida wildlife to boot.
This course was built in 1999 and designed by Jed Azinger whose vision was to ‘build a challenging course to test the players.’
A Par 72 18-hole course with a slope of 129 and a rating of 73.5 from the gold tees.
The layout is reminiscent of the other two courses at Lutz with plenty of water that lines the fairways and a lot of doglegs, with the par-5 8th being a risk-reward double dogleg.
Measuring 6900 yards from the back tees and with 4 sets of tees, this course could challenge golfers at all levels. The wide fairways and large greens may provide a bit of reprieve, though.
The club also boasts of having only 5 holes that have housing on both sides which is unusual for the region.
The club has a pro shop and a 50-station aqua-style driving range where the balls are hit into a pond. Practice bunkers, pitching and chipping area for the short game as well as putting greens are available.
Individual golf lessons are available from a professional instructor.
Morning tee times start at 8:20 AM with the last one at 4:50 PM.
The green fees start at $40 with carts for 18 holes that reduces to $28 for the afternoon sessions.
