Tucked away cozily in the Yampa Valley in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is the Haymaker Golf Course.
The course is just outside of the city and is approximately 2 hours 45 minutes from Denver.
There are 4 golf courses in Steamboat Springs and Haymaker is the only municipal course.
The facility is generally closed during the winter months.

Haymaker Golf Course was built in 1997 and designed by Keith Foster.
The course is an Audobon-certified facility for environmental conservation and preservation.
The course has partnered with several Steamboat Springs properties for Stay & Play packages.

This municipal links-style course is situated right in the middle of the valley and is beautiful with scenic views of the mountain ranges.
The 233-acre grounds can take various hues and characters depending on the time of the day and is worth a visit and native wildlife can be spotted throughout.
Although this is a municipal course, it can match a premium course in terms of its quality. No houses line the fairways and provide unobstructed views of the backdrop.
This course has also been featured consistently as one of the best courses in Colorado by various golf publications.
The fairways are open and generous and are devoid of trees as is the case with links-style courses. However, the roughs are quite thick and are unforgiving. This is probably where the course even got its name from.
The grounds although flat has undulations that are gentle, and the greens are big which aids with scoring.
As long as you can hit straight and keep the ball on the fairways, you are not gonna lose too many balls.
The course has a nice layout with the front 9’s more links styled with traditional back 9’s. Also, make sure to take a good look at the course layout if you are a newbie, or else you may find it difficult to place your shot or may even get lost.
The course measures 7308 yards from the back tees, placing it amongst the upper echelons of the lengthiest courses although there are only 2 holes that are more than 500 yards in length.
However, with 5 sets of tees including a thoughtful ‘family tee’, this course is attainable for players at all skill levels.

The facility boasts of a large driving range for swing-game practice as well as a sand bunker, chipping and putting green for the short game.

Appropriate golf attire is required at all times. Collared shirts are required for men. Metal spikes are not allowed.
