This is also one of the two municipal courses in Akron.
The course is generally closed during the winter months.
Mud Run Golf Course Akron, OH
The Mud Run Golf Course was built in 2003 by Craig Schreiner.
This is also a First Tee facility that fosters interest in the game in kids and teens and provides training.
This is a beautiful course and one of the prettiest around the area. The 85-acre course centers around marshy land with the fairways surrounded by wooded trees with plenty of wildlife and greenery around.
The course has a nice modern layout and design. Some people even wish that the course add another 9 more holes to it. You can play the 9’s twice if you wish, from different tees, which gives the 18 hole experience.
Mud Run is also known to be a kid and teen-friendly course and you would even get to spot families with kids teeing off.
The facility is well-maintained for a municipal course and some might say is on par with private country club courses.
This is a good course for people who are short on time and are looking for a quick round as well as for beginners who feel intimidated by an 18 hole. It’s also a good course where you get to practice your iron skills.
But don’t get misled by the looks. The course is known to be challenging if you do not strategize. Each hole is unique and angular from the back tees.
The fairways although short are tight. So if you don’t get the ball inside, then you may have to lose some. Hit the ball straight and you’d be rewarded.
One concern or feature (depending on who you ask) is that the greens can sometimes run fast.
Since this is a municipal course, some opine that the green speeds don’t have to be at the pro level. Plus, it also has a lot of slope and undulations to it, making it difficult to read.
The course measures only 2500 yards in length and has 5 sets of tees. Picking the right set of tee is crucial too as the back tees are known to produce blind shots.
