Sammons Golf Course is situated in Temple, Texas, in Bell County.
The course is built around lake Polk and the lake comes into play on numerous holes.
This municipal course is owned and operated by the City of Temple and is one of the two golf courses in the Temple area.
The facility is just under 2 hours from Dallas, a little over 2 hours from San Antonio, and an hour from Austin.
The course is open for golf, year-round.

The course was built a century back, in 1922, and designed by John Sammon from whom the course got its name.

Sammons is a pretty course wrapped around a lake and a park. The course was designed as a links-style course except that it is not built on coastal sandy dunes.
The parks and the lake that are part of the property add to the serenity and are also a good spot for relaxing and even having a fun family outing.
Situated close to the city center, this facility is also a reprieve from the urban hustle and bustle.
This course can be challenging. Water comes into play on 14 holes with the majority of them centered around the lake with a creek and pond on the back 9’s. There are a few holes with peninsula-type greens where the greens are built onto the side of the lake.
The routing can be a bit confusing due to this and one can even get lost if they didn’t know the way around.
The fairways are wide for the most part, however, there are trees that can pose a hazard and so shot placement can yield better results.
Measuring 6600 yards from the back tees, the course is a medium-length course. With 4 sets of tees available, this can be a fun and challenging course for golfers at all skill levels.

Layout
Driving Range
Sammons boasts of having one of the largest driving ranges in central Texas with 40 stations for swing sessions and is a highlight of this course.
The facility also has a 10,000 sq. ft., putting green and short game practice area with pitching and chipping greens as well as a large bunker.
Dress Code
Sammons requires appropriate golf attire at all times. Metal spikes are not allowed.

The facility has a well-stocked selection of golf equipment and apparel that includes all the top brands in the golf shop.
Sammons provides private golf lessons for all ages and skill levels, ranging from short-duration lessons to intermediate and beginner programs that are imparted by professional instructors.
Tee Times
The tee time hours at Sammons start at 7:30 AM and end at 4:50 PM in the afternoon with approximately 45 slots available in between.
