Wesley Chapel Golf Courses FL (All Public & Private)

Wesley Chapel is a suburb that lies to the north of Tampa, a region surrounded by wilderness preserves, and is part of Pasco County.

Wesley Chapel has 3 golf courses, two of which are resort type and one public.

As the area is dotted with preserves, it has an inland countryside feel as opposed to the beachy vibes of the cities that lie to the west of Tampa such as Tarpon Springs, Palm Harbor, and Clearwater.

The climate is warm and temperate and can be humid and hot during summers. The area, much like the Gulf Coast cities, has year-round playability.

So check out these courses if you are in the area that can test the skills of golfers at all levels.

Saddlebrook Golf Resort

Saddlebrook resort is one of the largest resort facilities in the Tampa Bay area. Situated 30 minutes north of downtown Tampa, on 480 acres of Florida marshlands, this picturesque golf resort has 540 suites to accommodate the guests.

So, if you are looking for a stay-and-play golf resort in the Tampa area, then Saddlebrook is a good choice – with two Arnold Palmer-designed courses.

The highlight of the resort is a state-of-the-art 16-acre golf training center, designed by Mike Angus, that can help improve every aspect of your game, whether you are a novice or a seasoned golfer.

This is a one-of-a-kind facility with a 70,000 sq ft and a 12,000 sq ft driving range for various types of practice shots, a 14,000 sq ft putting green, 10,000 sq ft wedge green, and 7,0000 sq ft of chipping green, amongst other amenities.

The golf academy here is one of the leading golf schools in Florida that provides comprehensive training and development programs, lessons, clinics, and camps for golfers at all skill levels, including a preparatory school for junior golfers.

Multiple golf packages are available depending on one’s budget and needs.

Compared to the Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, west of Tampa, which has 4 golf courses and the signature championship Copperhead course, Saddlebrook has only 2 courses.

The lack of courses should not deter you from checking out these courses at Saddlebrook; especially, if you are a fan of Arnold Palmer-designed courses.

Besides, Innisbrook has a beachy vibe to it whereas Saddlebrook is situated inland and has a more of a countryside feel.

Both the courses underwent a makeover in 2016 to bring them back to international standards.

Palmer Golf Course – Saddlebrook Resort

The first of the two Arnold Palmer designed courses and named after the legendary golfer himself, this is an 18-hole Par 71 course with a slope of 136 and a rating of 72.5.

This course’s distinguishing feature from the Saddlebrook Course is the elevation changes where flat grounds are rare and the fairways and greens are undulating.

The mounds and strategically placed bunkers as well as the occasional water hazard makes this a challenging course to play even though the course measures only 6270 yards from the tips. The fairways are tight, slanting with hilly lies that requires a variety of strategic shots to make par.

The course is made to look like a New England course but with the feel of the native Florida marshlands with cypresses, pines, and ponds dotting the fairways.

Saddlebrook Golf Course

The second of the two courses, the Saddlebrook course is the older of the two courses; was built in 1976 and redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. This is an 18-hole Par 70 course.

Unlike the Palmer course which has a lot of elevations, this course is known to be flat but tight.

There are a couple of other characteristics too that make this course different from Palmer that gives it a different feel.

The course has water coming into play on 14 holes as ponds and wetlands which is a characteristic of the marshland topography of this region. Due to this, there is an abundance of wildlife that’s discernible on this course. It’s not uncommon to spot a gator or turtle sunning out on the greens.

The course has a nice layout, is slightly lengthier than the Palmer course, measuring 6480 yards from the back tees.

The fairways are narrow, greens undulating, and with more than 50 bunkers guarding it, you’ll have to pretty much use every club in the bag to put up a decent score.

This course probably is the one in Wesley Chapel that truly evokes the landscape of the region that consists of marshlands, lakes, and thickly wooded areas.

This 18-hole Par 72 course was opened in 2000 and was designed by Gordan Lewis, has a slope of 136 and a USPG rating of 72.5.

The course has an interesting and challenging layout – resembling dual figure 8’s overlaid by the side.

Water comes into play on 15 holes with some holes requiring to carry over water and marsh without any layup area which makes it challenging and interesting.

The greens are good with the highlight being the 18th one which is 62 yards wide.

Expect diversity because of the layout and topography; and measuring 6750 yards from the back tees, this course requires a variety of shots to put up a decent score.

The facility has a golf shop, bar and grill, a driving range, pitching and chipping area for the short game as well as a putting green.

The green fees are $38 for early morning tee times, with cart, during weekdays, which tapers down to $25 for an afternoon session. Weekend rates are $43 and $28 respectively.

Various membership plans are available if you wish to become a member.

Proper golf attire is required.
