Dead Horse Lake Golf Course is situated in Knoxville, TN, and is a 16-minute drive from downtown.
The course takes its name from the history books; about how a horse got stuck in quicksand near hole #3 and later got the name of Dead Horse Lake, which is also the most discussed and popular hole of the course.
The course is roughly 3 hours from Atlanta and 2.5 hours from Nashville.
The course is open for playing year-round.
The facility had undergone a renovation and added more features, a couple of years back.

This family-owned course has a very interesting layout that centers around Dead Horse Lake.
The lake is an integral part of the course and comes into play on some holes where carry-over is required to reach the greens. A good short game will be rewarded.
The lake, the gently rolling hills, and the wooded groves all conspire to make this a charming, pretty course. The course is walkable. You might even spot some wildlife that calls this course home.
Due to this interesting natural layout of the course, good shot placement is a must, or be prepared to lose some balls. The greens are small but fast.
The fairways are open and wide and are fairly forgiving and there are no bunkers, but the undulations and uneven lies can trip you up.
At 6303 yards from the back tees, this is not a long course by today’s standards, but with 4 sets of tees, can be equally challenging and fun for both beginner and experienced golfers.

Course Layout
Driving Range
The course has a fairly large driving range with 16 stations for swing practice.
A chipping and pitching area is also available for short-game practice.
Tee Times
The course is open from dusk to dawn. You may contact the course’s website for booking tee time hours.
Dress Code
Metal spikes are not allowed on the course.

There are no membership options available at Dead Horse Lake.

The renovated clubhouse has a bar and restaurant for snacks and beverages.
Pro Shop
Dead Horse Lake has a golf shop that stocks golf equipment and apparel. There is no golf academy or professionals for lessons or clinics.
